General Fiasco talk Playaway!

The Irish threesome talk festival dating, pre-stage rituals and seaside swimming!

We’re massively excited about all of the acts appearing at Playaway in April, but one act we can’t wait to see are indie upstarts General Fiasco.

In anticipation of this monumental event, we had a bit of a natter with the Northern Irish threesome…..

Firstly, hello to you all. Are you excited to be part of a brand new festival to kick off the season in sunny seaside style?

Absolutely, it’s always amazing playing festivals. There’s a great atmosphere when festival season kicks in and it’s great that there’s another one to experience.

Playaway is all about the charms of the old-fashioned holiday by the sea with a modern twist. Do you have any fond memories of going to the seaside as a kid?

Yeah, being from Northern Ireland we spent a lot of time in Portrush and Portstewart in the summer time growing up, it was always good. Sun, sea, sand, ice-cream - what could be better?

Waltzers or dodgems?

Maybe waltzers. It’s a close one though - daddy or chips.

Out of all the fresh talent, who are you most looking forward to catching?

Noisettes, I saw them in the summer and they were class. The singer is such a talent, great presence and delivery, definitely worth catching.

Are you packing your Speedos/trunks/bikini for some beach bum antics?

Yeah for sure, General Fiasco always carry our trunks. We spend most of our days off in swimming pools. Due to the weather we have no choice to go indoors but if the option of the sea is there, why not?

Who would be your ideal festival date? Remember at Playaway there are always the “Down with Dating” events for those looking for love… Hmmmm, just someone who is easy going, happy to be dirty and see a tonne of bands rather than just getting drunk, either that or Audrey Tautou. Oh and I mean dirty as in muddy!

Are you V.I.P party animals or laid-back listeners?

Probably laid back listeners, but depending on the mood we can definitely party, whatever’s comfortable. Also depends on how boozy the day's been. VIP parties aren't always a craic attack, sometimes it’s just best hanging with your bro’s.

What festival anthem do you always wish you had written?

Away From Here by The Enemy, Sex On Fire also - there are too many. There is nothing better than the audience singing your song back, so to do it successfully at a festival must be the greatest feeling.

What is your funniest/scariest/best festival moment? Scariest would be opening the John Peel stage at Glasto last year. Best would be Oxygen this year because of the crowd that came. Funniest is Stephen's dance moves when he gatecrashed and got kicked out of a V.I.P tee pee party at Download last year.

Any weird rituals before you play live?

Nothing weird – we just sing a bit, few jokes, wind other up and per chance snarkle a beer.

What can we expect from your show?

Energy, lots of energy, plenty of gurns from Stephen the drummer, and hopefully a handful of good tunes.

Any hot tips for the scene in 2010?

Two Door Cinema Club, Local Natives, Little Comets. All great bands on record, and live.

Lastly, can you tell us what 2010 has in store for General Fiasco?

European tour, uk tour, single, tour, SXSW, album, tour, single tour, single tour etc. Well hopefully anyways. :)

Thank you General Fiasco!!!

The Southend-On-Sea foursome head to Skegness...

Playaway really is the festival that keeps giving isn’t it?? The Southend On Sea based foursome have not only shared a stage with the likes of Klaxons and The Kills, but they’ve also collaborated with the great Hedi Slimane – get them! They’ll be bringing their very own brand of ‘cool’ down to the Skegness seaside!
Sunday night headliners announced

The Noisettes are the band that have it all - amazing style, top tunes and the coolest front woman!

The trio consists of singer Shingai Shoniwa, guitarist Dan Smith and drummer Jamie Morrison, who formed the band in 2003.

2009 saw the band break the band from the underground to the mainstream. Their 70s disco-inspired single Don't Upset The Rhythm was the catalyst for this, and their album Wild Young Hearts mixted melodic pop, indie guitar riffs and hand claps a plenty to their raw DIY-punk ethic!
